Solar Panels

We want to help our customers save money in the long run, so at Your Extra Space we would love to go that extra mile for you and offer you Solar Panels.

How do Semi Flexible Solar Panels work?

A solar panel consists of many cells made from layers of semi-conducting material, most commonly silicon. When light shines on this material, a flow of electricity is created.

The cells don’t need direct sunlight to work and can even work on cloudy days. However, the stronger the sunshine, the more electricity generated.

Solar PV systems are made up of several panels, with each panel generating around  270W of energy in strong sunlight. Typical systems contain around 6 panels which covers a 5m x 3m Garden Building , 8 panels for 5m x 4m and 18 panels for 6m x 5m Garden Building. If your Garden Building is bespoke then we will calculate the correct number of solar panels for you.

According to the kits, the battery included in each kit would charge in 1 day during the summer and 4 days during the winter.
The size of 5x3m would be perfect for a small office with lights, a computer, TV or extra screen, a phone, and internet access.

A 6x5m system could run a small air BnB style unit for a customer. However during winter periods wood burner or multi fuel burner would be best for heating.

Do I need permission to install a solar  system?

Solar panels are considered ‘permitted developments’ and often don’t require planning permission. Our inverters are off grid which do not require planning permission in most cases.

However, exceptions apply and it’s best to check with your local planning office for guidance. If you live in a listed building, conservation area or national park, additional restrictions may apply.
